It was his first year teaching at my high school during my sophomore year and who would've thought that "Mr.Minnick" would impact my life in such a drastic way. I met Taylor Minnick during a rough time in my life where I didn't see anything positive or even a future for myself. He allowed me to express some of my problems to him and he gave me great advice. He pushed me to focus on school, sports, and other after school activities instead of the negative aspects in my life and I listened. I was a student that did the bare-minimum in school and he incited a spark in me to start caring about my education. And here I am.. about to start my third year IN COLLEGE!
My high school art teacher inspired me to start thinking about wanting to teach art. Rosa E. brightens up the room with her positive energy which spreads around her classroom to create a comforting and welcoming classroom environment. Rosa E. supports her students in any way she can and motivates students by connecting with them to come up with art assignments we would be interested in. She pushed her students to follow to their intuition to do anything that they wanted. From my high school experience I saw Rosa E. remain busy by teaching different art classes/mediums and still manages to put together many amazing programs that positively impacts that school, like student fashion shows and "I am that girl" club. Rosa E. is an amazing art teacher that cares, interacts, and focuses on ALL her students... However, she also prioritizes herself by making time for herself, her sons', friends, and doing the things that make her happy.. I hope to balance my life in such a manner. I aspire to be like Rosa E.
I know it's a cliche but.. that just goes to show you that GOOD teachers who teach for the good reasons can actually make a difference. Teachers have so much more to offer yet they remain so unappreciated. I started to realize that: I want to enlighten and lead my students towards a positive path like Taylor M., I want to influence and inspire my students to improve and better themselves - FOR THEMSELVES - like Sarah I., I want to impact my students in a drastic, positive manner that will make them remember me like Rosa E.!
I want to be a teacher.
Why an art teacher? I have been expressing my emotions and myself through art for as long as I can remember and even though I haven't found my favorite art media or medium, YET. I experiment with different products and supplies constantly.. I also change my mind and get bored easily so I believe that this career is right for me because art can be expressed and represented differently, an infinite amount of times. Art is so important and people fail to realize that. Society often belittles and discourages individuals from following an art path and/or an art career and that should change and I would like to become a part of that change. During the art classes I took in high school, I often rephrased the art lessons and instructions to other students because they just didn't/couldn't understand. I actually enjoyed explaining it to them and that feeling resonated with me; I thought to myself: "why not do that for a living?"
